My first trail run experience!

So on Saturday I experienced my first (and last) trail 5k run.

Oh boy. It was rough! The trail was very narrow, hilly, stumpy, winding, rocky, etc. It was overall just very difficult. I almost twisted my ankle like 3 times. I *knew* it was a trail run, but I guess I had a different image in my mind. And of course I forgot to take actual pictures of the trail.

I went into this 5k actually feeling very mentally strong, I misread that not very much of the 5k was on the actual trail and so I was like "I've got this!" That mood quickly shifted once we started. I ended up turning off my Garmin around 1.5 miles because I was just as that point concerned with compleation not a PR. The trail seemed to be no problem for the "faster" people, I am going to go on the assumption that several or a lot of them had seen it before and maybe even ran on it, but I could be wrong.

Pavement, pavement, glorious pavement!!

Out of this experience I did get to talk to some nice people! Most of the time I was alone on the trail, but every now and then I would come across someone looking about as *happy* as I was. I think most of us were just point blank period ready to be off of the trail.

As soon as I hit the pavement to the finish line I hauled tail, I just wanted to be done. See photo above :p

All in all, it supported a great cause and one close to my heart (my job), Autism Awareness, but I don't know if I will do another trail run anytime soon; maybe just solely to support a good cause but I will go in with the mindset that I probably won't PR.

Also, with this being such a small race, it wasn't chip timed annnnddd I did not turn in my time card at the end due to being annoyed (bad sportmanship, I know) annnnddddd my Garmin was turned off at about mile 1.5 so I don't have my exact time but I know it was around 49 minutes. Believe me, if I was going to lie I would make it much better than that.

Watch out, I plan to come back in full force! I may do another 5k this Saturday with my stepdad, I'm not 100% sure yet. Other than that my next one is May 11 at 6pm! I can't wait to do an evening one, I think it will be nice to do something different!

I can do all things through Him!! Marathon 2014!

Hi!!

I really have a lot going on this time of year so I am trying to blog at least once a week, I will pick back up with it consistantly right after June 15; after my wedding!! Between work and wedding planning I really have been swamped.

But I am just going to be honest, I have a 5k tomorrow supporting Autism Awareness and I am very underprepared for it. My *goal* was under 40 minutes and I am going to be positive and say I CAN achieve that goal, but we all know what I'm thinking. I am just going to go into and just run, no thinking required. Tonight I have a spring fling at my job until 8pm so that won't help the issue any. No excuses!

I will have a race recap by Sunday for you guys!

By the way, who has tried these?
They are awesome! They make a great little snack and satisfy a chocolate craving for only 100 calories and only about 13 or so grams of sugar. (I couldn't find the sugar amount online : p) I will definitely be buying more of these though!

So anyway send me good thoughrs and prayers for my 5k tomorrow! I know its only a 5k but still.... : D

I was not paid by Chobani to say that the Chobani Bites are delicious! : ) hehe.

Busy week + Wedding planning!

So this week was pretty busy! I am in crunch mode right now with my wedding being less than 2 months away. We have gotten most of the large stuff handled so now it's on to little details and stuff like that! I'm getting excited! Also, I went dress shopping yesterday and found my dress!! It's so me. I love it! Obviously I can't post a pic :p

Here is me holding my dress

Anyway, my workouts this week slacked majorly. I could sit here and make excuses about how busy my week was blah blah but the fact of the matter is just that, that those are excuses. I had a wonderful almost 4 mile run on Tuesday that I managed to do in 51 minutes!! I felt wonderful and was really "booking it" (remember that term is relative to the person : p)! It was a nice run after Monday's run, which I felt like I could have done better.

As you know I have officially signed up for the Disney Marathon so it is time to get super serious. I have been making myself drink at least 2 liters of water a day. I'm not going to lie, some days it is very hard and by the end of the day I am so sick of water; but it is good for me to stay hydrated and just good for me overall. It makes me eat less because I feel full and I really am slimming down and toning up. A good idea is to purchase a water bottle that is 1 liter and carry that around with you everywhere you go. It is mentally easier for me to drink the whole liter and fill it up one more time rather than filling up a small one like 50 times, I'm not sure why this is. You can see my trusty 1 liter bottle with me in the pic above!

Also, I mayyyy have talked my fiance, Markus, into running the Rock-n-Roll Savannah half with me in Novemeber!! He has been going to the gym with me and running some and has been doing great. This makes my heart happy!

I love this time of year though when there are lots of fun races going on! I have an autism awareness 5k this Saturday and 2 or 3 more coming up in the next couple of months, I also have my 1st 10k coming up at the end of May!!

Sorry to ramble on! I guess if you get anything from this post let it be that hard work and dedication really do pay off!! I am no where near running 26 miles yet, but I am getting stronger and a little faster over time! Running takes a lot of dedication and effort put into it, but I promise if you stick with it you will progress and be able to achieve your goals! You CAN do it! : )

Short and Sweet

Pray for Boston. These are scary times we live in, we can only cling to the hope that God has given us of much better days. He is ALL things good, we can't forget that! We aren't defeated, if anything we're going to run harder and with more heart!

Have a great week!

Weekly workout recap coming up on Friday!

3 Things Friday + Weekly Recap!

So I know it is usually "5 Things Friday", but this week I could only come up with "3 Things Friday"!
It is probably due to my brain being so extraordinarily tired; for some reason me and my mom are still dealing with jet lag. Anyways...3 things I loved this week:

1. Spin class!!
Generic photo from Google...

It was my very first spin class ever so I didn't want to weird everyone out by taking any photos! I must be a glutton for punishment because about 10 minutes into it I was cursing the instructor out in my mind. It was tough, so tough, but I loved it! And I will be returning, what is wrong with me??

2.Oranges!
Ever since I came back from CA, I have been obsessed with oranges! I HAD to go buy a bag Sunday afternoon because it was literally all I could think about (no, I'm not preg, I just watched my stepdad consume them at an alarming rate in CA)! I have been eating at least 1 or 2 everyday. They have to be cut a certain way though; cut in halves the those halves cut into 3 small pieces. This whole post is making me sound really odd...

3.McCafe Caramel Mocha!

I know this is a little on the unhealthy side but it is seriously so good! I am a HUGE Starbucks fan and this drink gives Starbucks a run for their money at a fraction of the price, I really can't believe I just said that. I don't ever eat at McD's but we happened to go through a drive through in CA and I randomly got this and I am determined it was fate : P
I have been a little obsessed with it this week.

That sums up my "3 Things Friday", and my weekly workout recap is as equally unimpressive...

Monday- ran a little, walked a litte, total about 2.35.
Tuesday-Spin class for 50 min!
Wednesday- Ran on the treadmill at the gym 2.01 miles in 29 min. Slow and unimpressive-I was insanely tired and had to drag myself to the gym to do that.
Thursday and Friday- decided to take the night off and catch up on some rest! I am planning on going to the gym tomorrow after a trip with the fiance to Ikea.

So pretty much this has been an uneventful week! I am going to catch up on my sleep this weekend and get myself back on track. I am not sure why I feel so out of wack this time, has anyone else ever had this problem from traveling??

Also, I found Jeff Galloway's marathon training schedule for beginners and I am going to start it in July! If I stay on track with it I should be more than ready for my marathon in January! Has anyone had experience with this program? I want to hear about it.

Have a great weekend!

Jumbo cinnamon rolls and baby kisses!

I'm baaaaaaccckkk! : p

I know you all missed me, but I had a great time in CA! I really didn't want to leave. The weather was amazing and there are so many awesome, flat running spots and also some of my favorite people in the world live there! I did have a difficult time running while I was there but I think it had to do with the amount of not so good food I was eating and the few drinks I had here and there. Oh well, haha.

To sum up the trip:

There was a lot of this...

A lot of this...

A little bit of this...

And some of this.

This week I am having a hard time getting back into the groove of things. I ran with mom yesterday but it is not even going to count as one of our training runs-it was that bad. I couldn't get into it and just never got in the groove so we cut it very short. That's ok though, there will be days like that.

In other news I am going to my first spin class tonight, I'm a little nervous. It is only 45 minutes though so I am sure I can survive!

Also, Disney Marathon registration opens today!! I have already signed up!! I am SO excited and can't wait for it! I can do all things through Him! Who else is signing up for it?

Later!

Regan

Later on this week: workout updates, 5 things Friday and more! : )
